SOUTH PLATTE BRASSIE

 Hook:  (M) 94840
 Size:  16-20
Thread:  Red or Red Fluorescent 6/0
 Body:  Copper Wire
Legs:  3 or 4 Pheasant Tail Fibers

Notes on tying:

1. Wrap thread on hook and lay copper wire along the top of hook shank and secure so wire is on top of hook.
2. Wrap copper wire around the hook shank from the rear to front and secure with tying thread.
3. Finish by tying tips of 3-4 pheasant tail fibers for legs (not quite reaching the point of the hook) to bottom of shank behind the eye.
4. Fur head option:  Dub gray muskrat fur to area in front of wire for head.
5. Whip finish.

This is my variation of a pattern from a book.  This fly is most productive when fished upstream dead drift.  If the fish don't seem interested get the fly near the bottom an use a Liesenring Lift right in front of the fish.  Remember, practice catch and release.
